What a lot of fun to play at Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival again!
We played the Bartok Quintet which was such an early piece I could barely find him in the notes! He himself said that this quintet was written before he found his voice. Nevertheless, it is well worth hearing. I think of Dohnyani with a twist of Janacek!
Maria Larionoff and I were roomates and we enjoyed afternoons of swimming after rehearsing the Moszkowski with Alexnder Tsyelakov, Artistic Director. Honestly it was like a holiday to be served freshly baked croissants and muffins by our hosts Paul and Barbara Kapelli.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and playing with James Campbell and of course the most wonderful Griffn Trio.

Seasons of the Sea Summer Activities
New Vetta Season announced!
I am so excited to share 3 of our concerts with more Vancouverites. This season we will present Vetta Downtown at Pyatt Hall! We will also continue our Salt Spring Concert Series.
A lot of changes in my life right now- I feel pulled back to Vancouver and all the music there but it has been a wonderful 3 years being based on Salt Spring Island. I hope I can bring some of the country vibe with me back to the city and will always keep a piece of my heart on Salt Spring with the wonderful folks there.

Dvorak

Dvorak must have been a very sweet man if you judge by his Opus 81 A Major Piano Quintet! Did you know that it was composed within a year of the Dohnanyi Quintet Opus 1?
Dvorak and Dohnanyi

I didn’t realise Dohnanyi was such an all round good musician with a conscience. Not only did he write symphonies, concerti, and deliciously romantic chamber music, he was a great piano soloist, conductor and teacher in Berlin, Budapest and America. He also did what he could to resist the Nazis and help Jewish musicians.
